Are you the stay-at-home parent or grandparent? Managing your household in a new country and new language can be very stressful! Shopping, phone calls, repairs, your children's friends and their parents ALL require you to speak and understand English.
After a busy and stressful work week, you probably would like to switch off English and relax with your own language, but there's a lot to do on the weekend. Shopping, car repairs, home maintenance...the list goes on, and the kind of English you need at home is different from the English you use at work, isn't it?
The school calls...and you panic. Communicating with teachers and the school office or school nurse can be really difficult if you don't have the vocabulary or if you don't understand the person who called. Preparing for phone calls and school events can relieve a lot of pressure for both parents.
Children learn a new language much faster than their parents when living in the country where the language is spoken - but some kids struggle, because English isn't spoken at home. They need help and practice, in order to build their vocabulary and confidence. Contact us for information about our 12-week tutoring courses for kids of all ages.
EFF helps younger children to fill in the gaps in their English when parents speak another language at home. They gain confidence and are able to participate more at school.
Younger children learn new languages easier and faster than teenagers. So if you moved to an English-speaking country with a teenager, your teen may need extra help to feel comfortable with a new language at school. Teens are especially affected socially by challenges and uncertainties in a new environment where they have to use a new language at school and to make friends.
